When smoke and cooking odors are not removed effectively despite the fan running normally, the issue is typically in the ductwork rather than the hood itself: a disconnected duct joint, blocked duct run, or closed damper is preventing the exhausted air from reaching the exterior. On recirculation (ductless) installations, this indicates the charcoal filters need replacement.
What Causes the Ventilation Effectiveness Failure Error?
Flex duct or rigid duct joints can separate inside the ceiling or cabinet space, causing the hood to exhaust into the cavity rather than to the exterior.
