Viking Freezer Thermistor Failure

Viking column and upright freezers use precision thermistors to monitor cabinet temperature and provide continuous feedback to the control board. The control board uses this data to cycle the compressor and maintain the set sub-zero temperature within a tight range. A failed thermistor sends an incorrect temperature reading — causing the compressor to run excessively (if sensor reads too warm), cycle too infrequently (if sensor reads too cold), or trigger false temperature alarms on the display. Thermistor failure in freezers is particularly consequential because food safety depends on maintaining consistent sub-zero temperatures. The freezer may indicate a target temperature on the display while the actual cabinet temperature has drifted significantly.
